Show 4 + + OO OO + 4x + 4 tNSOFJll f i I NAIONAl GUARD i + 44i4OO O + + + On Friday next the three years term of service of the infantry companies com-panies A and B and the battery ends The infantry is making preparations for a proper observance of the event and will celebrate in the following manner B company will give a dance I in at Marks hal at which officers and members of the guard will be I present and a good time is expected D company while it was mustered in later than the 26th will also lebrate and proposes holding a competitive drill on Wednesday evening at which several medals and a scarf pin or two will be given the most proficient A company has not yet decided as to how it will commemorate its anniversary anniver-sary but will have a good time in the near future while the battery has I agreed list that all the old men will en < s > < > < E > Already the question of an encampment encamp-ment has been raised and the officers are informally discussing the advisability advisa-bility of holding the same some time this summer It is the general sentiment senti-ment that some time during the latter part of August or the beginning of September would be the proper time some time when the members of the companies in the country could getaway get-away from their work and the weather would not be too hot The consensus of judgment is that carnival week would be a poor time As to the location l loca-tion that has not been agreed upon < t > < t > > Two companles at Logan will be mustered out very soon and it is said the Brigham City company will disband dis-band There seems to be a lack of interest In-terest and why this Is so it is difficult to determine The imperfect law has had a great deal to with it of course Critchlow and Nye knew more than all the members of the guard who appeared ap-peared before the committee at the first legislature and fixed the law so it is an emasculated edition of some which has neither purpose or effect The new law will be a vast improvement improve-ment although as concerns companies in the rural districts there cannot be much expected They are compelled by law to drill only six times per year continued and might as well be mustered out as I The new caps have arrived and will be issued so soon as it i determined who will reenlist and who will not They will be hailed with delight by the boys who have grown tired of the old timers 000 Orders appointing the adjutant and quartermaster surgeon the sergeant majOr and other noncommissioned staff officers of the First artillery are expected These soon appointments will in all probability be divided be tween battery A of this city and bat tery B of Ogden Ogdeni00 Troop C is getting along famously and had 24 men out at the last drill The boys are going to recruit some good men in the future and will be in excellent condition for the carnival < S > < > 0 The Ogden battery battery B is I said to be on the improvement and by the time the spring has fairly opened the boys will be in good condition con-dition They have received but little encouragement but have done well up to date and are going to do better |
