Show IN RAILWAY CIRCLES A Receiver Ristine of the Colorado flidland Here 1 SAYS HIS VISIT HAS NO SIGNIFICANCE SIG-NIFICANCE WHATEVER Oregon Short Line Has Other Matters Mat-ters Than the Ogden Gateway to Consider Cattle Buyers Coming in From the East Bjalway Notes Receiver George W Ristine of the Colorado Midland and A P Tanner general freight agent for that line arrived ar-rived here yesterday from Colorado and spent the afternoon with local railway men There isnt the slightest significance attached to my visit said Mr Ris tine The Ogden gateway has nothing noth-ing to do with it I merely came over to attend to some routine business matters with the Rio Grande Western our connection to meet the railroad men and call on our local agent The I fact is I should come to bait Lake much oftener than I do We shall stay over until Monday THE OGDEN GATEWAY Other Matters Demand Consideration of the Oregon Short Line I At this juncture it can bosaid that so far as the opening of the Ogden gateway is concerned eastern line I connections have not taken up the I matter as yet Nor is the time ripe I as the Oregon Shirt Line railroad is yet in long clothes and has hpre I it matters of local concern demaTlngi I its earnest consideration as well as others of a northwest type I By the northwest type is mea t business busi-ness from Portland to Utah and Montana Mon-tana and via more than one line of railway Already the Oregon Railway Navigation I Navi-gation company and the Southern Pacific I Pa-cific company are hot after the new I Short Line people each anxious to find out where they stand on future business I busi-ness relations The Oregon Railway I Navigation company want something better than what they have now while i the Southern Pacific company are desirous de-sirous of holding onto the divisions they now get on Utah and Montana business The latter company has been I doing well on Utah and Montana business busi-ness and a change is not likely In the first place the Oregon Short Line I people cannot be expected to be held down through business given them I over the Union Pacific so long as it would not add to Short Line revenues nor Is it reasonable to suppose that they will burden themselves with traffic traf-fic that may be made to react against them through the resentment of the Oregon Railway Navigatlon company com-pany a natural ally and one that may not be treated with impunity It Is true that the Southern Pacific company com-pany could work into Montana from Portland over the Great Northern but I they would be handicapped to a great extent as against the field now operated op-erated on over the Oregon Short Line On the other hand the Oregon Railway Rail-way Navigation company will insist I on a more reciprocal feeling governing I I and when it Is considered that a strong I relationship financially exists between thatcompany and the Short Line only I one course is open to the latter hearkening I heark-ening to the cry of relationship Therefore it may be said that these I matters now up for consideration with the Short Line people take precedence I all others that of the over even opening I I open-ing of the Ogden gateway should such a thing ever be brought forward in a formal manner by the lines interested The S P May Buy Galveston Tex March 20President Huntington and a number of prominent promi-nent officials of the Southern Pacific railroad spent about two hours here today examining the terminal facilities of the Galveston La Porte and Houston Hous-ton railway The Southern Pacific it is stated has offered 1000000 in four I per cent Southern Pacific bonds for the La Porte road which runs between here and Houston The present indebtedness indebt-edness of this road Is about 1300000 and it has been in the hands of a receiver re-ceiver for a year Arrangements are now being made to adjust this indebtedness indebt-edness and transfer the property to the Southern Pacific at their offer There is however opposition to the transfer on the part of some of the creditors of the La Porte road and what the ie suit of the negotiations will be is still in doubt Railway Notes Agent Corse of the Union Pacific was down from Ogden yesterday The railway officials report that stock buyers are coming in thick from r the east to look for catte and weathers weath-ers Keogh Bros will in a day or two commence moving about 1000 head of cattle from Mountain Home Ida to Pocatello for summer range Harry Wilson chief clerk in the general gen-eral freight office Oregon Short Line went to Helena yesterday where he will be checked out by the Union Pacific Pa-cific which he formerly represented at that point He is accompanied by Mrs Wilson and they will return on Thursday next and thereafter make this city their home |
