Show AN OLD NEVADA TRAGEDY The Pight Between Bodlen and Clii may at the Bodie Saloon I saw a great deal of killing In one form or another and a heap of savage fights In Nevadas mountains said Captain Cap-tain William Mason ones of the Comstock Com-stock lode and a score of other lodes in the Silver state to a New York Sun reporter re-porter but for surprise and horror the fight between Bodlen and Chlmay in the Bodie saloon lay over anything else by Ions odds It was about midnight that II the men fell to shootingwhat it was about I forget nowbut the saloon was runnng full blast and there was a scattering scat-tering to get out of the way of the shots But the shooting was all on one side for the cylinder of Chimays pistol wouldnt revolve and Bodlen sent shots Into him until Chimay fell with holes enough In him to have let out three lives He was carried Into a back room and laid out on the floor to wait for the coroner and then everybody went back into the front part of the saloon and the games and the drinking went on as lively as before be-fore Bodlen as the winner was naturally t popular and a good deal looked up to that night and had a good many Invitations Invita-tions to drink and he set em up himself off and on He was standing at the bar with a group around him the hero of the night Of a sudden the door of the backroom back-room where Chlmay had been laid away opened and the first man that looked gave a yell like an Indian and nearly fell backward and the rest of us felt like do I Irs the same thing when we saw that it was Chlmay standing there pistol in hand looking round He saw the man he wanted und by this time everybody between him and Bodlen had got out of the way He raised his pistol and Bodlen pulled his and the shots rang out again but this time Chimays pistol cylinder revolved re-volved and at his second shot Bodlen dropped his pistol staggered and went down on his face shot through the heart Chlmay watched him fall and then his pistol dropped from his hand and he fell backward Into the room a corpse for good this time For clear nerve and resolution what Chimay had done beat anything I ever knew of Left to himself J he had revived re-vived picked up his pistol taken it apart fixed the cylinder so that it would work and then came out and shot his man That was a spe imen chip of Nevada I Ne-vada in the old days of |
