store the surplus S One of the workmen at the Grand I I Central had his foot mangled Sunday and was sent to Salt Lake on the following fol-lowing morning for treatment I Ore Is being hauled to the Sioux mill from the Ajax at the rate of 50 tons a day and iris probable that the I mill Avill start up on Thursday of this week Work was started this week on the Silver Era a new prospect at Dragon A shaft is being sunk and already the indications are promising Wilson Blackett are the owners Operations at the Carissa are very encouraging for all concerned A good shipment was made from the property this week and it is reported that a new strike of rich ore has been encountered in the lower workings Assays from the find show 1 ounces in gold and there is also a large amount of concentrating ore in sight A very important strike was made in the Uncle Sam esterday which demonstrates a theory which has been held by a number of practical prospectors pros-pectors of the district The ore which 5 was encountered runs well up in silver and lead and is of the same character as that which is being taken out of the Godiva This proves that the ore zone is continuous from the Sioux to the Qodiva Jesse Knight who recently purchased the Uncle Sam appears to be the luckiest man in the camp since he invested in the Humbug which has made such a phenomenal record within the past few months f A force of men has gone to Cherry creek to start work on the new pipeline pipe-line which Is to be constructed from there to Mammoth Since the camp has started to grow so rapidly the water supply becoming inadequate I and it was deemed necessary to increase in-crease the volume In order to insure I an abundance of water it has been decided de-cided to lay another line from Cherry I creek Two cars of pipe has already arrived and were unloaded at the junction I junc-tion New machinery will also be added to the pumping plants and when I the work now contemplated has been I completed the camp will have a supply I of water which will be in keeping with the growth of the town An unfortunate accident occurred at the Mammoth dump Monday morning morn-ing which came near resulting fatally While the railroad men were in the act of settling an ore car on the track at the bins a workman at the mine came out with a car of waste and dumped it at the end of the dump A large boulder came down the side with great force and struck Conductor Thomas who was at work under the car Fortunately he had moved from his position as the rock landed and it I struck him on the hip Had he remained re-mained In his original position the I boulder would have landed in the small of his back and resulted fatally Frank was taken to the hotel and a physician summoned I will be sometime some-time before the injured man will be able to return to work Mining Notes and Personals The latest news from the Ibex mine in Detroit district Is of a most encouraging nature Drifts are now being run on the vein which Mining company has just placed 5000 shares of its treasury stock at 10 cents a share and that the development of the property will be continued a rapidly as I possible The Badger is equipped with a I line hoist and the outlook for the property I prop-erty is good I Attorney Sam King of Provo who was in the city yesterday informs The Herald that the directors of the Annie Mining company will hold a meeting on the 5th of May at which time it is expected that the company wH decide to resume work in the development of Its Mercur property prop-erty as most of the heavy stockholders are anxious to see this promising piece of ground come to the front Word was received yesterday at the Salt Lake office of the Dexter Mining corrpany that another strike had just been made in this Tuscarora Nev property prop-erty and that in another portion of the mine quite a distance from the rich discover dis-cover made a few weeks ago a line body of O gold ore had been uncovered The Dexter has been making a wonderful wonder-ful record of late and it Is the general impression that the company will begin the payment of dividends during the coming com-ing month Dexter stock sold on the curb yesterday afternoon at J1S5 W S Godbe the pioneer mining operator ot Lincoln county New is In the city from Bullioiuille Mr Godbe states that mining matters are very quiet in the vicinity of Ploche and Bullionville at the present time At De Lamar however how-ever there is considerable activity Thee The-e Lamar and April Fool mines are sending out their regular consignments of bullion while the showing in the Magnolia Mag-nolia is excellent and the recent discoveries dis-coveries in the Oro a Yen promising property adjoining have resulted in causing I caus-ing considerable excitement in that lo caaty I is rumored in mining circles that the Utah and Galena Mining companies are considering the feasability of the consolidation con-solidation of the two mines and that a meeting has already been held with this in view The Utah and Galena are adjoining ad-joining mines and are virtual held by the same people so that the manipulation of the two are virtually under te sme management and as the underground workings of the mines are connected and can be operated together to good advantage ad-vantage i is believed that the proposed consolidation would be beneficial all around The officers of the two companies com-panies will meet again on Friday night for the purpose of further considering the matter and it is believed that at the same meeting the Utah company will declare de-clare a dividend for April J Q Packard the grand mogul of the Godiva mine on Godiva mountain Eureka informs The Herald that he is pleased to hear of the big strike in the Uncle Sam mine which adjoins the Godiva as I proves the continuity of the ore deposits of that region Accord ing to Mr Packard the Godiva is looking look-ing well with good bodies of high grade ore in sight but he states that but little I ore will be shipped from the property until a spur from the railroad is built to the mine as he is opposed in this enlightened en-lightened and progressive age to haulIng haul-Ing the output of the mine to the railroad In wagons even if It is a short distance When asked what road would build to the Godiva Mr Packard stated that it would be the R G W I is expected that the I branch will be built this season when this property will enter the list as a regular shipper The fine steam hoist at the Godiva is now nearly ready for erection and the mine is in excellent shrr = Major E A Littlefield the veteran newspaper man who is now associated with The Switch at Ogden was in the city yesterday Major Littlefield was conduct > papers at Elko and Tusca rora Key in 3877 when that region was in the height of its big gold excitement and he tells many interesting reminiscences reminis-cences regarding the great gold mines of that country The major was also identi fled with the South Pass country in Wyoming when the Miners Dream mine was in operation and he states that this was then one of the richest gold mines of the west and also that it is still a magnificent property The Miners Dream is largely owned by Ogden people peo-ple and it is understood that it will soon be reopened The Carissa also in the South Pass country which Is owned by George W Keel of this city Is another other of the future weth producers of that region and It is coming into considerable con-siderable prominence of late especially so as it is reported that a big strike ha mona been wade In the
