ANOTHER GOLD SAVER A Machine For the Recovery of Placer Gold Any number Qf machines have been invented during the past year for the recovery of placer gold The latest applicant ap-plicant for public favor is the Edison Gold Saving machine which is mentioned men-tioned bv the Gazette of Phoenix Ariz as follows At West Washington street near the corner of Third avenue can be seen a machine which promises to revolutionize revolution-ize the placer mining industry of Arizona zona and to make rich many a hardworking hard-working prospector who is now poor I is known as the Edison Gold Saving machine and can be run by hand I closely resembles the old winnowing machine but It runs a great deal easier because of its ball bearings The order of business is as follows A man sits a1 his ease and turns a crank which gives the main body of the machine which is fitted with a series of screens a gentle horizontal oscillatory oscilla-tory moiiqn and at the same time pumps water into a perforated pipe which pours it on to the top screen The falling water combined with the movement move-ment of the machine carries the pay dirt which has been shoveled into a dir las hopper on top down through the series of screens and finally over a set of amalgam plates which save the gold i The great value to Arizona of the machine is in the fact that it can be run With five barrels of water per day I i is as successful in practice as it appears to be in theory it solves a great problem for Arizona A great deal of time and money ha been wasted trying to perfect a dry washer to work our placer beds that are distant from water To this machine water can be hauled and 30 tons of earth be run through in a working day The reason that so little water is required Is that the water after washing the dirt runs back into a cistern and is used again
