| Show I THE GLADSTONE MINE i I Work Being Pushed in Opening Up This Property S SOUTH SWANSEA DIVIDEND TH REGULAR DISTEIBUTI02T OF WEALTH ASSURED Although a Young Producer This Property Has Already Declared 837500 i DividendsThe Mine in Excellent Condition With Large Ore Reserves in Sight Another An-other Gold SaverA Machine For the Recovery of Placer GoldA Child Can Work ItWiil Develop Devel-op the Peru A Promising Property Prop-erty North of Eureka GulchA Big Mining Deal Sale of New Mexico Placers to Pittsburg People S Peo-ple Mining Sharks at Work in Butte Ore and Bullion Silver and Lead Mercur April 14Your correspondent visited the Gladstone yesterday and was indeed surprised at the wonderful progress made during the winter Quite a number of buildings have been erected here of late among which area are-a boarding house 12x34 feet a bunkhouse bunk-house 12x16 and capable of accommodating accom-modating 24 men a cozy little office shaft house stable blacksmith shop wagon shed etc I The mine is in splendid condition the timbers are lined with twoinch plank The shaft is now 247 feet deep and it is intended to make a station at the COO From that point four drifts will be run which will cut the bre veins A short distance west of the shaft the drift should cut the vein which crops out on the Leadville No3 and it is estimated es-timated that 91 feet from the shaft in a northerly direction will bring them to the vein in the Gladstone No1 The latter vein has been explored for some depth and assays showed 121 at the surface 330 at a little distance below while still deeper assays of > 415 were found Should the ore increase in-crease at this ratio with depth as the above facts would indicate by cutting the vein at 300 or 400 feet below the surface a rich body of mineral should surace be uncovered Considerable prospecting work has been done on the property enough to indicate that there are large bodies of ore there and that it will eventually prove to be one of the great mines of the district Its location as regards the Golden Gate Brickyard Geyser Marion Gold Coin and others make it a rood speculative property and the expenditure of 14000 on the ground has only added to the belief that the mine would soon be a producer Mr Cory has shown great deal of pluck in his labors and good judgment In the choice of men to assist him in developing the property The work is under the supervision of J D Spargo who ha been in charge of De Lamars property in Washington His timber man Mr Cox is also an old hand of De apo Lamars and has few superiors in the art of timbering As a consequence the mine is said to be better timbered than most of the mines in the state The workmen receive the highest wages in the camp hence the services of the best men can be obtained During the winter ten men have been employed at the mine and the average depth made has been three feet per day About 20 rfipredays will bring them to the station from which drifts will be wi run Mr Cory will leave for the east in a I few days and expects to be absent about six weeks During his absence I the work will be continued on the lines laid out While east he intends purchasing I pur-chasing a steam hoist to replace the I Davis whim at present in operation and will probably consolidate the Brooklyn and Gladstone which will give the company control of a large tract of valuable ground The Gladstone Glad-stone at present consists of eight claims and is incorporated into 300000 shares of the par value of 5 per share The Brooklyn consists of eight claims and is incorporated with 300000 at 1 per share Ore has been found on various parts of the property ranging from a trace to 4 and in every case it has been found that the values increase with depth inquiries from eastern parties regarding re-garding Mercur properties are becoming becom-ing frequent and a train load of interested inter-ested parties came into camp today The contract for hauling lumber and machinery to the La Cigale has been let to Hales and Bench The material will be brought to Mercur and there will be about 700000 pounds of machinery machin-ery or about 40 car ioads and about 300000 feet of lumber will be used in the construction of the plant A townsite has been laid out near the La Cigale and takes the name of the city I is well located and will be watered from Ophir creek Work on the west dip is again in full blast and it is evident that before long there will be a number of producers on the western slope |
