Disreputable Doings of a Theological Student Special to THEHERALD Examiner DisPatch ELMIRA N Y April IS Excitement in Cook academy at Havana twenty miles from this city has run high over a recent sensational occurrence upon which the faculty was finally compelled to take action ac-tion Frederick Maston of Rochester ii I the central figure in the episode Maston is a young man of good family who is said to be studying for the ministry About a week ago the story runs ho told certain of his fellow students that a young lady stu dent of the academy had entered his room after midnight and seated herself at his bedside The intrusion awoke him he claimed and he asked his visitor to retire but she refused and he had to summon a brother student and remove her by force This was Mastons story Some of his fellow students allege that he boasted of his hypnotic influence over the girl told various students he had her in his room and asked them to come and see her there About eight of the students drew up a petition pe-tition asking President Hill and the faculty to expell Maston threatening to resign if such action were not taken Eight of the leaders in getting up this petition were suspended out the movement has assumed such proportions that it was decided to give Maston a trial before the faculty The young lady is an orphan and an aunt who lives near Boston took her in charge The trial was the most sensational ono which has occurred in Cook academy The result of the trial was that Maston has been compelled to retire from his academic career at least temporarily Evidence was furnished the faculy it is said showing the young man has been engaged at different times to marry several young ladies of Havana The character of the girl in question ques-tion was not impeached The eight students suspended for their connection with the petition of remonstrance have been reinstated rein-stated
