| Show The President in Houston HOUSTON Tex April 18A committee of citizensheaded by CongressmanjStewart and Mayor Scherfius met the party at the station and escorted them in carriages to tho Capitol hotel over a route decorated with the American colors and thronged with people Luncheon was served after which there was speechmaking followed by a public reception While the exercises exer-cises were in progress at the hotel a committee com-mittee of ladles boarded the train and decorated the Presidents car with flowers transforming it into a perfect bower of beauty PostmasterGeneral Wanamaker left the party at Palestine to visit his sis te He will rejoin the President at Galveston In the course of his speech referring to the products of Texas etc the President said We have been trying to do what we could from Washington to make you a larger and better market for your enormous enor-mous meat products CheersJ We have felt that the restrictions imposed by some European governments could not fairly be justified upon the ground stated by them Already the secretary of agriculture himself him-self a farmer who has with his own hands wrought in all the work of the farm has succeeded in procuring the removal of some of these injurious restrictions and has announced to the country that the exportation ex-portation of cattle has increased 100 percent per-cent in the last year Cheers I beg to assure you these interests will have the most careful attention from the government govern-ment at Washington and from our representatives repre-sentatives at foreign courts The President then held a short reception recep-tion where the enthusiasm shown at Palestine Pales-tine was repeated on a much larger scale |
