| Show HE SEES THE GULF The President and Party i the Lone Star State SOMETHING BEFORE BREAKFAST An Enthusiastic Reception at Palestine Houston Hous-ton and Galveston Welcome the Chief Magistrate PALESTINE Tex April lShe President Presi-dent arrived here at S oclock this morning and was greeted by a large crowd assembled as-sembled at the station He made a speech and held a short reception The President was formally received by the governor of thestate and the mayor and city council of Palestine The governor was accompanied by Senator Reagan and a committee of ladies Governor Hogg welcomed the party on behalf of tne state and Mayor Pratt on behalf of the city The President responding said in part I gives me pleasure to come this fresh morning into this great stateu kingdom without a king an empire without an emperor em-peror a state gigantic its proportion and matchless in its resources with diversified diversi-fied industries and infinite capabilities to sustain D tremendous population and bring to every home where industry abides prosperity and comfort Such homes I am sure are represented here this morning morn-Ing l All of us are thankful together that peace rests upon our whole country All of us have pledged ourselves that no sectional ot tonal ot strife shall ever divide us and that while abiding in peace withal with-al the world wo are against all aggression one mighty united people Cheers I 1 desire to assure you my countrymen coun-trymen that in my heart 1 make no distinction dis-tinction between our people anywhere CheersJ I have a deep desire that everywhere every-where in all our states there shall bo that profound respect for the will of the majority ma-jority j expressed by our votes that shall bring constant peace into all our communities communi-ties It is very kind of you to come here this morning before breakfast Perhaps you are initiating me into the Texas habit of taking something before breakfast Laughter and cheers Secretary Husk also made a short address ad-dress He spoke of the vast natural resources I re-sources of the state and predicted the continuance i con-tinuance of the present enterprise of the people would make it the richest as it is now the largest state of the union What they needed and what they undoubtedly would have was a deep water harbor at Galveston or at some other point on the gulf |
