Show TV TATTLE I Sally Strulhers on comedy Sally Struthers won two Emmy awards for comedy on her eight seasons with "All in the Family," but since then she has devoted herself to drama. Last week's "A Gun in the House" on CBS was the latest of seven dramatic movies for TV that she has done, and Struthers has much to say about the two acting forms. "If someone made me decide on one for the rest of my life, I'd say comedy, simply sim-ply because I get great joy out of making people laugh. I think I get to use more of my ability as a performer with comedy." Even though producers praise her dramatic abilities in films, they keep her in comedy com-edy when it comes to a weekly TV series. But she doesn't mind. "It's OK, because with a comedy series, I can get away, during hiatus, to do a film, or whatever; and, I have a home life. With a one-hour dramatic series, I'd never get to see my 18-month-old Pay TV from PBS in 1983 Preparations for a new pay television network are in the works at the Public Broadcasting Broad-casting Service. The new service, called the Public Subscriber Network, is projected to begin in 1983 and would be based on a partnership partner-ship between public television stations and the nation's major cultural institutions. At night, the new network will offer a single major performing per-forming arts or cultural feature fea-ture presentation, with surrounding sur-rounding short subjects. During the day, the network would provide secondary school, higher education and adult courses, master classes, skills classes, professional enrichment courses and management man-agement courses. While the evening programming program-ming would be supported by family subscribers primarily, the daytime programming would be supported by institutional institu-tional subscribers school districts, colleges, universities, universi-ties, corporations, etc. But families would also have access to these services. |
