Show Agree To Fence Danger Area WOODS CROSS - Hatch-co Hatch-co and the Union Pacific Railroad Rail-road have agreed to fence off two dangerous loading areas along 800 West in Woods Cross, according to a city councilman. COUNCILMAN Terrell Bird said the railroad has informed in-formed him they will install double gates in front of a potentially dangerous chemical chemic-al loading dock toward the northern end of 800 West. Hatchco has agreed to fence off a wooden loading dock area a couple of blocks north of the 1500 South interchange. Councilman Bird said the two companies agreed to the measures after some negotia-" negotia-" tfcn with the city. LAST SUMMER the city council became aware of a potential hazard posed by the two loading docks after hearing hear-ing accounts of children playing play-ing in the loading areas. Scraps of wood and old nails were found near the wooden Hatchco dock definite dangers dan-gers to children on foot or riding rid-ing bicycles. One mother told the Clipper she had seen children chil-dren flying off the loading dock on their bicycles, a six-foot drop from the top of the platform. plat-form. THE CITY council was also concerned during the summer that children would wander into the chemical loading area and get some of the chemicals on them. To combat against possible lawsuits against the city or either of the companies, the council asked the entities to take action. NOW, AFTER nearly six months, it appears that the two companies want to protect their interests in the city and avoid any lawsuits from community com-munity members. Councilman Bird said no one without access to a key will be able to get into the double dou-ble gates the railroad is installing install-ing around the chemical loading load-ing dock. FENCING OF the two areas will begin sometime this week, the councilman said, mdm |
