"They're two completely different dif-ferent things. You're not duplicating dupli-cating costs." And while it might cost $250 for heart testing the cost hasn't been set because the unit is so new other tests might cost thousands of dollars, dol-lars, (that may be eliminated through its use) he notes. "By a single test we hope to get the information that would normally nor-mally take a longer time." ACQUISITION of the combined com-bined unit, along with Mr. Bradke's expertise help make Lakeview a "pacesetter" among area hospitals and show the south Davis hospital is not taking a back seat to other area health facilities, the trio notes. And while most other hospitals hos-pitals are expected to acquire the unit by 1985. Lakeview staff will be further refining their knowledge and use. Mr. Creason says. IT IS ALREADY in use at some California clinics where it can be transported where needed, he adds. By TOM BUSSELBERG BOUNTIFUL An early warning system that may detect de-tect tumors, bone changes or circulatory problems is now in place at Bountiful's Lakeview Hospital. USE OF THE equipment could result in a savings in time and money, emphasize Dr. Richard N. Hartvigsen. It will be used primarily for cardiac studies ( of the heart). THE CAMERA can take pictures of the heart, for inst- ance, giving a visual picture of its structure. Then the computer compu-ter can add statistics and graphs. Mr. Bradke says, allowing for a comparison of the two kidneys, for example. "The radiation dose is less than for an x-ray it's very minimal." he explains. "We don't use it to try and cure anything, any-thing, just as a diagnostic tool." The system helps to show function while an x-ray normally shows structure. Dr. Hartvigsen says, noting the computer is the latest available with only 16 other hospitals having such a system nationwide. The unit's portable nature is also unique in the state, allowing allow-ing it to be moved to intensive care or other areas where a patient pa-tient cannot easily be moved. Mr. Creason says.
