Show Litter Stories Untrue Stories concerning litter pickup in northern Utah by the Utah Department of Transportation Trans-portation have surfaced in the press this week. Unfortunately, Unfortunate-ly, much of the information is flat wrong and should be corrected. cor-rected. IT WAS stated that 70 per- cent of all the money used for litter pickup in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada is spent cleaning roads between Farm-ington Farm-ington and Brigham City. That is false. Of course, UDOT neither receives nor spends funds for any other state. UDOT's District Dis-trict One includes Box Elder, ' Cache, Rich, Weber, Morgan and the northern half of Davis counties. Seventy percent of the litter UDOT crews pick up in District One is found on state roads between Farming-ton Farming-ton and Brigham City. DISTRICT ONE has been allocated $110,219 for litter pickup between July 1, 1981 and July 1, 1982. So far, the district has spent $47,893. Lastly, the stories indicated that a study was underway of the litter situation between Farmington and Brigham City. That is also incorrect. Litter pickup and the monitoring of the costs involved are routine matters in all six districts of UDOT. |
