Show NSL Okay's info Access NORTH SALT LAKE North Salt Lake officials unanimously approved a new city policy Tuesday which will allow residents access to information in-formation about business license applications and returns. re-turns. AS A SIDE note, the city council voted against allowing the information to be given out over the phone. The policy change emerged after one city employee told the council she had received numerous calls from people wanting information about local loc-al businesses. According to city ordinance, records dealing deal-ing with business license applications, ap-plications, or returns, were . previously inaccessible. CITY ATTORNEY Mike McCoy said he was under the impression that all city records should be open to the public and advised the council to follow fol-low state law. He added that the city council coun-cil has the right to set certain restrictions and said, "You can adopt a policy of not passing pas-sing it (infornation) out over the phone." THE ATTORNEY said if people want to get their hands on the information they can come into the city offices. There are cases, he added, where key police and fire department de-partment workers do not want their phone numbers given out over the phone for security reasons. He cited this as one exception to the rule. ATTY. MCCOY also recommended re-commended that the city council coun-cil consider repealing the existing ex-isting "closed record" ordinance. ordi-nance.
