Show EjOP Goo-Boo By DAVE WIGHAM Once again those so-called experts who are in charge of scheduling have pulled off yet another major boo-boo by scheduling two top tournaments for the same time. . ADD TO that a third tournament in a different sport and the chances of getting a good crowd at either one of the three goes down considerably. For the past several years in early August the annual Utah against Arizona All-Star games in both football and basketball have taken place on the campus of the University of Utah. THIS FRIDAY the basketballers take on their counterparts coun-terparts from the cactus state. Then on Saturday the scene shifts to Rice Stadium for the gridiron battle between the two states. These two games are for those players who have just completed their senior years in high school. NOW FOR those who have another year left in high school, those who will be seniors this coming school year, there will be the Summer Prep International Basketball Tournament which will be held at Brigham Young " University Wednesday through Saturday. Teams from Utah, California, New York, Nevada, Washington, Michigan, Arizona, and New Mexico are all . ' entered in the four day tournament. UTAH IS represented by two teams, the one from the Provo area then the other from the rest of the state. All : of the clubs coming in are state winners. These are supposed sup-posed to be the top high school players in the country next year. College scouts should be making Provo their . home this week in searching for talent. As if these two tournaments aren't enough for one week keep in mind this is the week that the state American Legion baseball tournament takes place. : THAT MAKES it hard on sports fans to decide where to go, but think of the players who could be in a couple of them. Robbie Tillman of Ben Lomond could play in both the BCI basketball event and the Legion baseball tournament. tour-nament. Other players could be in the Legion event and the Arizona All-Star game. Seems funny that three of the biggest tournaments : should take place on the same week. |
