Show K. Zoellner In Exercise Marine Lance Corporal Kevin W. Zoellner, whose wife, Cathy, is the daughter of Boyde and Ann Gallagher of 2393 S. 250 W., Bountiful, recently participated in exercise exer-cise "Varsity Cleanex" off the Southern California coast. HE IS assigned to the 1st Battalion, First Marines, based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. More than 17,000 Navy and Marine Corps personnel participated par-ticipated in the 11-day exercise exer-cise which included 24 ships and approximately 250 aircraft. "VARSITY Cleanex" was designed to provide essential Navy and Marine Corps joint training in amphibious operations and culminated with an amphibious assault at the Marine Corps Base, Camp -Pendleton, Calif. The exercise was under overall command of Vice Admiral Ad-miral Samuel L. Gravely Jr.,-USN, Jr.,-USN, Commander U.S. Third Fleet. The major on-scene commanders were Rear Admiral Ad-miral R.A. Paddock, USN, Commander Amphibious Group, Eastern Pacific, and Major General C. G. Cooper, USMC, commanding general, 1st -Marine Amphibious Force, based at Camp Pendleton. - - A 1977 graduate of View- - mont High School, Zoellner joined the Marine Corps in September 1977. |
