Show Joseph Humphries, 74 Dies in Springdale Buried At Hurricane HURRICANE, Utah F u n e r a 1 services were held in the Hurricane Hurri-cane North ward chapel, Saturday Dec. 30, at 2:30 p.m. for Joseph Humphries. 74, who died at the home of Bp. and Mrs. Alvin Hardy in Springdale Thursday, Dec. 28, following a stroke suffered suf-fered Christmas night. He had been in poor health for several months. Mrs. Hardy is his daughter. Bp. Carol Heaton presided at the services, counselor Gardner Heywood conducting. The high school faculty guartette, under direction of Owen Burgener sang "Oh, My Father." and "I Know My Heavenly Father Knows," with Mrs. Frank Reber at the organ, and Mrs. Wesley Hardy sang "One Fleeting Hour," accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Vernet Hinton. Speakers were Robert P. Woodbury, Wood-bury, James Judd and Elmer Graff. All three told of Mr. Humphries' peace-loving nature, his honesty and his devotion to his family. They urged that those who remain show more appreciation apprecia-tion to and for each other while they are living which means more than flowers for the dead. Prayers were by Joseph Webb and George Whitney. The grave in the City cemetery was dedicated dedi-cated by John M. Crawford of Springdale. Joseph Humphries was a son of James and Dollie Melissa Allen Humphries who came to Virgin in the L. D. S. colonization program pro-gram of Utah in 1866. He was born at Virgin in 1870. The family fam-ily moved to Hurricane in 1911, where both of his parents died. He married Sarah Isom in the St. George Temple. She died in 1936 and he has since made his home with his children. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Alvin Hardy and Mrs. Jeneva Johnson of Springdale; Mrs. Kelly Justett of Cedar City; Owen and Afton Humphries of Hurricane, and the following brothers and sisters: James Humphries and Mrs. Lizzie Burke of Idaho; John and Frank Humphries of Hurricane; Hurri-cane; Mrs. Tillie Clark of Pan-guitch Pan-guitch and Edward Humphries of Hinckley. |
