Show Broncos Tromple Flyers in 27-7 Grid Tilt With plenty of strength in the line and a lot of speed and shiftiness shift-iness in the backfield the Branch Agricultural college football team showed vast improvement Friday night to smother a heavy Hill Air Force base team under four touchdowns to win by a 27 to 7 score. The Broncos displayed an excellent passing attack, with Doug McShane doing the heaving heav-ing and Dayle Rust on the receiving receiv-ing end, and a good running attack behind a rugged line, to dominate play throughout the game. The Broncos scored one touchdown touch-down in the first half on a pass from McShane to Rust, and held a 6 to 0 advantage as the second sec-ond half opened. Another score was added on the McShane Rust combination in the second half, alter which a new pass combination, com-bination, Stan Mackay, quarterback quarter-back to Winston Christensen, fullback, clicked for another touchdown. The fourth Bronco score came on a wide end sweep by Clyde Turner, after a pitch-out pitch-out from McShane, and with .a key block by Rusty Prestwich clearing the way for Turner. Paul Sisk, quarterback, added the 25th point with a place kick. The only Hill Air Force touchdown, touch-down, came after Richard Franc heaved a wobbly plass to Keith Roth on the Bronco five, from where Billy. Roper crashed pver for the score. The pass play came close to ending in a loss for the airmen as three Bronco linemen crashed into, the passer, but he 1 threw as he fell and completed it for a substantial gain. The Bronco defense, featured by some excellent playing by end Kent Myers, and consistent all-round good play by the entire en-tire line, stopped the Airmen attack during most of the game. And at one time the Broncos made a goal line stand to prevent pre-vent a score after the visitors had gained a first down on the Bronco five yard line. One of the most brilliant performances per-formances of the entire game was turned in by Roy Jones, halfback, half-back, one of the most shifty runners to wear the Bronco colors col-ors in a long time. The shifty, spinning speedster went for substantial gains nearly every time he carried the ball. Two conference and three other oth-er non-conference battles were played by Intermountain Collegiate Colleg-iate conference teams during the week. The Westminster Parsons upst the Snow Badgers, 12 to 6 in one of the league encounters, and the Ricks college Vikings trimmed the Carbon Eagles 20 to 0 in the other official game. In the non-conference battles, Weber upset a favored Modesto, Calif., team 20 to 12. while Boise was defeated 18 to 6 by Olympia junior college, and Phoenix walloped wal-loped Dixie 39 to 13. |
