Show UP&L reduces rates Utah Power and Light Co. and state utility regulators have agreed to a rate reduction for the company's com-pany's Utah customers. The rate reduction, which initially initial-ly amounts to about two percent, will take effect April 1. A typical residential customer will save about ab-out $10 per year. The reduction must be reviewed and approved by the state Public Service Commission. This is the second UP&L rate reduction this year. In January, the company reduced its Utah rates one percent. Both rate reductions came about through discussions with the state's Division of Public Utilities and Committee of Con sumer Services. Technically, the reductions were made through the company's Energy Ener-gy Balancing Account a rate-setting rate-setting tool that allows the company com-pany and regulators to monitor constantly changing prices of fuel and purchased power. This account may be adjusted again in the future when the state Public Service Commission holds hearings. hear-ings. The rate decreases also are in addition to the five percent to 10 percent rate decreases that will occur following UP&L's merger with PacifiCorp. Company officials offi-cials hope to consummate the merger mer-ger later this year. |
