Tho reports which havo been .published from year to year by this association show that the purposes of. tne organization havo been carried otlt successfully, and much good has been accomplished. JIow much good one cm hardly realize oven from a careful study -of the reports of the association. Ono of its principal alms Is not only to relieve suffering, but. to help I ho nn-fortunalo nn-fortunalo ones In time of distress by giving giv-ing them the means of helping themselves. them-selves. Frequently money bus been advanced ad-vanced in t lie way of a loan; grocery bills and meat bills have been guaranteed guaran-teed until the head of Hie family was again on his feet. By "this means the I worthy but unfortunate havo been helped without causing a loss of self-respect. Every -case brought to the attention of the superintendent of Ibis association is carefully investigated, and no person -who Is found worthy Is passed by, but is given such help as ls deemed best for his circumstances. There is no. wasto whatever. Another purposo of tho organization is to protect those who arc generously inclined in-clined from imposition. . Frequently impostors im-postors canvass tho city for contributions contribu-tions for somo unknown cause. Investigations Investi-gations havo shpwn tnat ms cause represented rep-resented was unworthy. The Salt Lako Charity association has. thercforo, saved thousands of dollars by its work in investigating in-vestigating causes represented. The association as-sociation Is therefore worthy of cordial support on this account. If tho cause -is approved, after careful investigation by tho Salt Lake Charity association, and if the one who Is soliciting funds presents tho proper credentials which commend I his causo tho people then need not fear the Imposition which ls so often practiced. prac-ticed. Many Impostors havo been driven from the city and others havo been suppressed, sup-pressed, nnd those who aro charitably inclined in-clined have been saved from suclt solicitors. solicit-ors. Tho report of the. genoral superintendent. superintend-ent. M. M. Woods, shows that this small amount, of nionev accomplished a great deal of good. The mere de.talls of the flnaelal statement do not bgln to give a cleur Idea, of the hnlp extendcR.' or of tho work entailed in relieving distress. Many persons wi-ro pormanenlly relieved re-lieved by finding those who should lake caro of them. In many other cuses work was secured for heads of families, and in a few oases tho law was invoked to cu-foreo cu-foreo the prQpor providers to lake care of those who were dependent upon them. If any reader wants someone to do smy kind of work, or If any render knows of those who arc In distress and need the care of the association, It will be taken as a favor If a telephone message Is sent to the office of tho association.
