Peter Sampson died at St. Mark's hospital hos-pital at :i o'clock Wednesday afternoon, and John Kopslartlc Is lying at tha L. D. S. hospital fluttering from threo bad bullet bul-let wounds, as tho rosult of a duel with revolvers between tha mon, at Blngha., early Wednesday morning. About three weeks ago Sampson, who waa a prlzo tlKhter, and Kopslaltio became be-came engaged In a boxing bout in a saloon sa-loon at Wngham. Sampson struck his fellow countryman on tho point of tho Jaw such a eevoro blow that ho was counted out. Kopslaftlc was very angry at tho timo and sworo vongcanco for tho Mow. It was only a few days after that Kopslaftlc Kop-slaftlc went, to Sampson's rooming placo and without delay pulled a .revolver on him. Tho gun was discharged and tho bullet passed through the aleevo of Sampson's Samp-son's coat. Kopslaftlc disappeared from Bingham, and was not aeen again until last night, when tho two men met In the Athens saloon. War was on Immediately. Kopslaftlc Kop-slaftlc and Sampson each pulled a revolver revol-ver and began llrlng. Tho former got hl3 man at tho first shot, tho bullet striking him in the .right lung. Sampson fell to the floor and then took a shot at hla enomy. Tho men exchanged three shots. Samppon was shot twice ' In the breast and onco In the left arm. Tho bullets from Sampson's revolver took effect In Kopslaf tic's left, shoulder and arm. Ills chances for recovery are very good. After tho shooting tho two men wore attended bv Drs. Ray and Scott, and wore sent to this city on the Qr.1o o'clock train Wednesday morning. After arriving at St. Mark's hospital Sampson grow steadily steadi-ly worse, until his death occurred at 3 o'clock Wednesday. Sampson had a boxing bout, to be pulled ofi In Bingham Christmas day, with a boxer from Shafer, Mont., who had arrived In this city to await the meeting. Sampson'r. body was taken to the E. W. Hall undertaking establishment, where It will be prepared for burial. |
