Martin's ordinance, Increasing tho dlstanco of excavations underneath sidewalks from within three to within four feet of tho curb lino and eliminating Intersections entlrels. and also making the propertj- owner give tho cits an Indemnlfs'lng bond for excavating, by tho improvement committee of tho city council at tho committee meeting Wednesday evening. The addition Is to the effect that the grant to excavate underneath the sidewalk side-walk does not permit the property owner making tho excavation to acquire ans' title In tho ground bes'ond the original property line. This ordinance, as twlco amended, was rocommended for passage. It was said some time ago that it was Intended to enlarge the Louvre rathskeller, at Second South and Main streets, by excavating underneath tho sidewalk on both Second South and Main streets and adding the excavated epace to tho establishment, but tills ordinance, if it passes, will prohibit pro-hibit that' The license commltteo and tho Superior Supe-rior Baking compans Indulged In a heated heat-ed debate as to whether this company, which runs ten delivery wagons about the cits, shall pay a peddler's license similar to Ice and ice-cream wagons.
