Show A. M. Peterson Mortally Wounds Himself With Suicidal j Intent. 1 DIES TWO HOURS LATER -AT ST. MARK'S HOSPITAL Members of Family Can Assign No Cause for Self-Destruction. Self-Destruction. For a reason which will never bo known, A. f. Peterson, 4G years old, proprietor of tho Baltimore oyster and coffeo housa at 55 West First South street, while in tho collar of his eating house Wednesday forenoon at 11:80 o'clock, shot himself in tho mouth with a .32-cnlibcr, hammcrlcss rovolver, causing a wound from which he died two hours lato at St. Mark's hospital. The muzzle of tho revolver, from all appearances, was placed .iust between the. teeth, when the trigger was pulled, as tho ballot cut the gums and tliou ranged upward into the brain. The man was removed to tho emercency hospital hos-pital in the city jail, -whore Dr. Stewart attended him until the St. Mark's hospital hos-pital ainbulanco arrived to convoy him to that institution. Last Sunday night there was a fire in tho Holding Electric company 's storo next door to tho rostaurant, which had smoked the outing house up to such an extont that it had been closed to businoss since. Mr. Peterson, assisted by his brother-in-law, Gus Lind, and a cook, John Granficld. was getting tho restaurant into condition for busuicss.' Sliot Is Heard. Mr. Peterson had just brought a caso of eggs from tho cellar and had supposedly sup-posedly gone down for another, whoc a nois'o was heard from below, and an investigation mado by C. E. Taylor, j who had como into the store and in- j quired for Peterson and was told he i was working in tho collar, found the man lying on tho cellar floor, groaning. groan-ing. The police wore called and Detective De-tective Burt and Jailer Eiploy went in tho police patrol to got the mau. Ho was found in a deplorable condition, his face being covered with blood and one eye nearly out of its socket because of a" hemorrhage of tho brain. Peterson left his home, at 126 South Sixth East street, Wednesday morning about S o'clock, apparent!" in good spirits. Upou arriving at the restaurant restau-rant there was no change in his demeanor de-meanor noticed b3' Lind or Granficld, and the tragedy came as a great shock to all. Poterson is survivod by a wife and throe daughters, ttuth. 17; Grace, .14, and Evelyn, ti years old. Cause Is Unknown. The family aro overcome with grief, for there- was no domestic or financial trouble thai would cause tho man io tako his life, as far as is known by the i remaining rolatives and frionds. ; Mr. Poterson had lived iu this city for about twenty years. For a long period ho conducted a bakerv on East becoud South street near the Wilson hotel, but ho was forced to movo when an addition was placed on the hotel. His business at 55 West First South street had been successful. Mr. Lind, in a talk with a Tribune reporter Wednesday evening, said: "I cannot oven imagino for what reason Poterson would commit suicide. His family relations wero most pleasant and ho was very proud of his wifo and throe daughters. I have- been iu close touch with his businoss, and T know that it has been successful. Tho reason for his deed will uevcr be known." Funeral arrangements have not yet becu nufde. |
