The letter was written writ-ten last .Tune by the defendant to Julian Ulpley. In It he characterized Annls as a "rascal" and "scoundrel." and accused him of bctrnvlng his brother's wife. District Attorney Darrlu offered this letter in evidence as preliminary to the testimony of Mr. Ripley concerning a second letter from tho defendant whlcb. the witness had destroyed. Justice Crano would not permit Mr. Ripley to testify concerning his rocollection or tho contents of this second loiter.
