Show Upland Game Bird Harvest Report Shows 1967 Gains Upland game bird hunters in Utah achieved slightly lower hunter success during the 1967 bird hunts but gener-ally gener-ally increased harvest resulting result-ing from more liberal seasons, especially the pheasant and mourning dove shooters who had record harvests of these two birds. The 1967 harvest has been released by the Division of Fish and Game in their an-tiual an-tiual "game" bird harvest re-port.""This re-port.""This report noted a total to-tal number of hunters in the field for all species of game birds of 88,639. Pheasant hunters scored the top harvest of 284,000 birds which is the highest harvest since 1963 and the second highest since harvest reports have been issued. There were 85,664 pheasant hunters a-field a-field during the fall hunt. A new record was set for total harvest of mourning doves with 263,949 doves taken by 25,161 hunters last fall. Chukar harvest was 48,906 birds by 17,485 hunters; the quail kill was 26,187 birds by 8,455 hunters. The grouse harvest was good last year with forest grouse hunters enjoying a long season which continued through the deer hunt for the first time. Sage grouse harvest har-vest was 5,089 with 5,336 hunters afield and the forest grouse kill was 17,526 by the 9,420 hunters. There were 16,049 Hungarian Hungar-ian partridge taken last season sea-son by 6,321 scatter-gunners. Last year's wild turkey harvest was 40 birds by 135 hunters who went out in pursuit pur-suit of this elusive game bird. 1 1 |
