Show Co. Democrats Name Delegates To State Confab Over 150 Iron County Democrats Dem-ocrats met Wednesday, June 12, to elect state delegates and to hear messages from nearly all the national, state and local candidates, according accord-ing to McRay Coward, County chairman. Twenty-five Iron County residents were nominated for 17 state delegate positions. Voting by secret ballot, county coun-ty delegates elected the fol-owing fol-owing delegates to the State Democratic Convention scheduled sched-uled July 27 in Salt Lake City: From Cedar City McRay Cloward, J. Harlan Burns, Kumen S. Gardner, Clarence Miller, Orville Isom, Otto Fife, Haldow E. Christensen, Arliss W. Jensen, Lyman F. Smart, John Hammond, and Mrs. Mary D. Lunt. Elected from Parowan were Bruce Decker, Earl Bunn, and D. Watson Adams; from New Castle were Mrs. Iva Harrison, County Vice chairman, and Trustin Hart; and from Paragonah was Ivan Robb. Dub Leigh, Michael Sherman and Rodney Slack all of Cedar City, were named alternates, ,. In addition, the convention was addressed briefly by the following: Mike Cooper, Salt Lake City, Speaking in behalf of Vice President Hubert Humphrey; Thorpe Waddingham, Delta, speaking for Governor Calvin L. Rampton; Phil Hansen, Milton Weilenman, and J. D. Williams, all of Salt Lake City and candidates for the, U.S. Senate; Walker E. Ander- j son, Grant M. Prisbey, and Gaylen Ross, Salt Lake City candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives, Second District; John Preston Creer and Cornelius Van Drunen, both of Salt Lake City, along with Felshaw King, Layton, and Charles Pickett, St. George, candidates for Utah State Attorney General. Ray Pruett, Tooele, and Wayne Black and Dan Ber-man, Ber-man, both of Salt Lake City, running for Democratic National Na-tional Committeeman, also spoke briefly. Regional and County candi-1 dates who spoke included J. Harlan Burns, Cedar City, unopposed un-opposed candidate to succeed himself as Fifth District At-, torney, Glen E. Snow, St! George, candidate for the U-tah U-tah State Senate, District 27, and Kumen S. Gardner, Cedar City, legislative candidate from District 68. Trustin Hart, , New Castle, and Bruce Decker, candidates for the Iron County Coun-ty Commission also spoke. Certification of the legislative, legisla-tive, judicial and county candidates as the official nominees of the Iron County Democratic 'Party was the final action of the evening. Lyman Smart, secretary of the county committee, assisted assist-ed by Clarence Miller, party treasurer and Iva Harrison, vice chairman, conducted the election. |
