Show Cedar City Chamber Warns Against Promotion Gimicks The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce has cautioned residents res-idents of the area about special spec-ial promotional gimicks currently cur-rently reported in the area. The citizens of Cedar City are cautioned about 'give-away" sales promotions. These work in two ways. In one a salesman offers to sell you a product such as aluminum siding for your home and tells you that as a bonus that you will receive a free gift. Too often investigation discloses that the cost of th,e product Is excessive, and of inferior quality, qual-ity, so the "Free" gift proves to be quite costly. Another promotion that the public should be cautioned about is where the Individual receives a phone call or a notice in the mail that he has won a free gift by a drawing or other means and if they will call In at a business office of-fice in town, usually temporary, tempor-ary, they can receive this gift. Often when the person calls in to receive the gift they are given a high pressure sales pitch to buy small appliances, house-wares, etc. Claims are made by th.e saleman that they are not selling items, but are just doing public relations or promotional work, that they do not receive commissions commis-sions on sales, and that the companies are losing money on the products. This is usually usual-ly untrue. Investigation may disclose that the products are of inferior quality or overpriced over-priced or both. The wise shopper will compare com-pare prices and quality before making a purcahse and they will usually find that the established es-tablished stores give the best buys, and are here to guarantee guaran-tee and service what they sell. -I IIIHMII I " |
