Show New venue for reporter Christmas is finally over. And, though I usually don't overly indulge in-dulge in the gift-giving festivities, I decided this was the year to pull out the stops and do something special for myself a complete change of venue. ( ' i v- ' I scon SUMMERILL Staff Reporter So, as the Wasatch Front bundles up in oversized winter garb to survive sur-vive the grip of the Siberian snow blower that has swept most of the state, this reporter is packing up and heading for the more hospitable climate of St. George. But before I go, and in the spirit of the season, I would like to extend my best wishes to the people I've had the pleasure of being associated with in Davis County over the past year. To the board of county commissioners, commis-sioners, most of whom will be new to the office: may your meetings be productive and beneficial, and may you have numerous unanimous decisions in the upcoming year. Though agreeing on everything would mean no one is truly thinking, think-ing, once in a while would be nice. To the bum plant administration (I know you hate that name): may you find enough garbage and infectious infec-tious waste to turn a good idea into a financially sound concern. It would be a shame to see a state-of-the-art facility bum nothing but taxpayers money. To the board of education: may all your apples be free of worms, and may your students soar as high as your aspirations for them. To the sheriffs department, paramedics, firefighters and police departments throughout the county: may your personal lives be as meaningful mean-ingful and impressive as the job you do. It's not easy to put your life on the line for others. It takes dedication, dedica-tion, and a certain amount of insanity. insani-ty. From what I've seen, you all meet the criteria. To any and everyone I've left out of this piece: I wish you your just reward for whatever you do. Though it may be hard to figure out . exactly what it is that you do, I'm sure you've told me and anyone else who has asked just how good you really are at doing it (don't worry, I do the same thing). In all seriousness, the day-to-day job of serving the public is a strenuous, and mostly unrewarded one. It's no wonder many public servants fall into a complacent mode from time to time. But, those who serve the residents of Davis County are as dedicated and professional profes-sional as they come, and all deserve recognition for a job well done most of the time anyway. The changes in county and city officials should be exciting and challenging to both the people taking office and those who have to live with their decisions. I'm confident confi-dent the coming year will be filled with controversial issues, good decisions and a few bloopers. One of the most exciting events will be the opening of the new jail in Farrnington. The facility should provide a pool of controversy and news articles for a long time. With all that said and done, I bid you all farewell and wish you all the best Now, I have to go home and cram everything I own into a small trailer and hit the road. |
