At- 1 1 j Lions Club plan Cedar City Fourth of July Celebration t A full day of activities have been planned for the Independence Day t Celebration in Cedar City under the 2 direction of the Cedar City Lions Club, i The day's activities will begin with a sunrise salute and continue through to I culminate with a gigantic fireworks f display to be staged at the flood control 1 dams located in the southeast section of f the city, according to George LeBaron, general chairman. X Following the Sunrise Salute t residents of the area will be treated to a 2 Miniature Parade down Cedar City's f Main Street at 9 a.m. The parade is under the direction of the Lady Lions 2 and will feature the theme of "It's a $ Small World." Friday a drawing was held and X royalty for the parade and for the t celebration were selected. X Queen of the parade will be petite X Trac' Slack, daughter of Mike and Lynne Slack. Miss Slack is four years X old. King will be Russell Holyoak son of f Cullen and Kae Holyoak, also four years old. X Attendants will include Lacey Brooke t Perkins the four year old daughter of . X Daniel and Marsha Perkins and Corey Nathan Miller, the six year old son of Glen and Mary Pryor. The royalty will ride the lead float in the parade. Prizes will be awarded in several catagories. Following the parade plans call for activities on the Cedar City Municipal Park including a Patriotic Program. Featured speaker for the program will be Dr. Philip Flammer, Associate Professor of History at Brigham Young University. Dr. Flammer teaches Military Diplomatic History. He is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and has taught at the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. He is also a veteran of the Viet Nam war where he served as a writer and flyer. ' Dr. Flammer will incorporate many stories of patriotic significance into his remarks, it is understood. Concessions on the park will include a dunking pond, fishing ponds, ring toss, dart throw, baseball throw and basketball toss. Added to the activities this year will be a sponge throw and a hot seat where the participants ' can give his victim an electrical shock by hitting the target. Under the direction of the Lions Clubs food concessions will also be available, x They include hamburgers, hot dogs, soft drinks, ice cream and snow cones. X The food concessions will be located at the Lions Pavilion on the Park. Z Also during the forenoon special x races will be held for the children with cash prizes to be awarded the winners. X The celebration will be concluded on t the evening of the Fourth of July with the fireworks display scheduled to x begin at dusk. Funds for the fireworks are being Z acquired, in part, through the sale of X patriotic buttons on sale by members of the Lions Club. X The activities provides an op- portunity for residents to celebrate the Z occasion of the 198th birthday of the signing of the Declaration of In- S dependence, an event which began the f unique establishment of what has developed into the greatest Democracy Z ever known by mankind. X Mr. LaBaron and his committee i invite residents from throughout the Z southern Utah area to join 'in the festivities in recognition of this f great event. |
