Show Jaycees down Artie Circle; narrow National Leauge lead Arctic Circle 8 12 Jaycees 7 3 Lions (i 4 Kon's Sporting Gocxls 3 6 Elks Lodge 4 6 Jones Motor 1 8 Jaycees narrowed the gap with league leading Arctic Circle Monday night when with a 10-6 victory in a battle between the first and second place teams in the Cedar City National Little League. The victory by Jaycees was their second for the week against one loss. Arctic Circle had a similar record for action through Monday night. Here's how the past week's games went: Arctic Circle scored an 8 to 5 fictory over Ron's Sporting Goods with Isaacson going the distance on the mound. Neilson pitched for Ron's and also homered in a losing effort. The two clubs were tied at 2-all after three innings of play by Arctic pushed in three runs in the fourth to take a lead and never relinquish it. The second victory was a 12 to 8 win over Jones Motor. Stephenson and Issacson shared mound duty for the winners while Rhodes and Bohen were on the mound for Jones Motor. Arctic again broke away from a tie, this time a 4-all deadlock in the third inning to go on and win. Arctic had big 5th and (ith innings. Jaycee's victories were at the expense of the Lions 10-7 and Elks 10-6. Against Lions Edwards and Gubler shared mound duty for the win. Aldred and McDonough hurled for Lions. Both teams pushed in three runs in the first innings and except for the third and fourth when Jaycees scored three runs without a hit. Against Elks it was Laird and Lunt on the mound and the pair were also the big sticks with Lunt belting two home runs and Laird added another in the contest, Giles and Peck were on the mound for Elks. One of the hottest contested games of the week was a 6-4 victory by Lions over Ron's Sporting Goods in an extra inning affair Friday night. Larson for Lions and Jones for Ron's left the mound alter six innings with the score tied at 4-all. McDonough in relief picked up the win for Lions. Lions trailed going into the bottom of the sixth, and what was expected to be the last inning, but McDonough singled and came on to score on a single by Hollerman to knot the score at 4-all. Lions held in the top of the seventh and pushed in two runs in that frame to pick up the win. In the only other game of the week jt was Elks demolishing Jones Motor by a score of 21-1. Despite the heavy scoring Elks did not hit a homerun and pushed in the 21 tallies on 14 hits, scoring in every frame. Giles and Bladen shared mound duty for the winners, while Baggs, Rhodes and Bohen all saw action for the losers. |
