Show I Celebration planned in Parowan j for Independence Day festivities The Fire Department will add the final touch to the day with a giant fireworks display at the race track on the evening of the Fourth. All citizens in the area are invited to spend the Fourth in Parowan. V , . tt" tbe liii 1 j PAROWAN - A rousing daybreak I salute will awaken Parowan L Citizens on the morning of the k Fourth of July to begin a full day , of activities in honor of the : ; nation's birthday. i At 7:30 a.m. Cub Scouts from i the First Ward will hold a flag 1 raising ceremony in front of the :j First Second Ward Chapel. I Immediately following this, members of the First Ward will J begin serving breakfast on the i park lawn just west of the 1 library. They will be serving sour I dough pancakes, ham and eggs and a beverage. A family ticket Bmay be purchased for $7.00 or $1.75 for adults, $1.00 for children I ages 6 to 11 and under 6 free. At 9:30 a.m. a parade will be f' held on Main Street, and all y clubs, business houses', civic and ward organizations are encouraged en-couraged to enter floats of a patriotic theme in the parade. Children of the community are urged to decorate their bikes, tricycles and costume and enter the children's division of the parade. Judging will be prior to the parade so all contestants are urged to be in place at 9 a.m. on 100 South Street. Highlight of the parade will be the Parowan City float carrying Uncle Sam and The Goddess of Liberty. Denise Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Benson Jr. has been chosen as Goddess of Liberty; Denise is a Jr. at PHS where she is active in drama, and a member of the Rammettes marching group. She was a delegate to girls state. Immediately following the parade the firemen's club will hold sport events on the park lawn. They promise some exciting ex-citing events such as pie and watermelon eating contest, with a giant tug of war as the climax. At 11 a.m. a public meeting will be held in the Third Ward Chapel. A very outstanding program is planned. Special musical numbers are being prepared by groups from the community and special guest speaker will be Dr. Joseph Hamilton of St. George. Uncle Sam and the Goddess of Liberty will also speak. At noon the Red Hill Wranglers will serve another Buffalo barbecue bar-becue with delicious buffalo meat cooked to perfection and served with all the trimmings. The dinner will be located on the park lawn. At 2 p.m. the Red Hill Wranglers will sponsor their 22nd Annual Fourth of July Race Meet at the beautiful Parowan track. A full racing card will be featured with entertainment between the races. Horsemen wishing to enter their horses in the races may do so Monday, July 1 at the Parowan track. Anyone wishing more in-, formation on this may call Norm Evans in Parowan. Ni j Ills Gary Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Adams has been chosen as Uncle Sam. Gary is a 1974 graduate of PHS where he served as student body president, and was active in sports and drama. |
