Charges filed on cultivating marajuana against Nevadian Charges have been filed , against a Las Vegas, Nev. ; resident for cultivating - Marajuana, it was reported by , Iron County Sheriff Ira Schoppmann. Schopp-mann. Charged was John Lee Van Houten, 25, of Las Vegas. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Gail Seegmiller and bail , was set at $2000. Van Houten posted bail and is now awaiting a .' preliminary hearing. The charges of cultivating Marajuana is a third degree , felony, according to Sheriff i Schoppmann. i The Sheriff indicated that a tip In that marajuana plants were being grown in the State Line j Mine area in Hamblin Valley j area of extreme northwestern j Iron County, was brought to the department's attention by a law X enforcement officer from I U California. 1 Upon investigation the I Sheriff's department found what y was believed to be over 1000 J l plants being cultivated in the area and Van Houten, who was J ' camped in the area, was picked J 1 up and charged. j - Sheriff Schoppmann indicated I J that all but three of the plants I were destroyed.
