Show Young Bandit Also Forces Rancher to Go to Bank and Get Money. Special to The Tribune. TWIN FALLS, Idaho, Aug. 23.-At the point of a gun, according to his story related re-lated to officers here, W. S. Starr, rancher of Kimberly, Thursday afternoon wrote, in favor of J. R. Annis, 20 years of age, a check for $300, went with Annis to a bank here and cashed the check, and accompanied ac-companied Annis in an automobile to Eden, where, at his first opportunity, he got possession of the gun and summoned the police. Annis, who is in the county jail here, made a statement to Sheriff Sprague today to-day denying the spirit of banditry in the act which gave him $300 of Starr's money. He declares the transaction was a matter of charity on the part of Starr toward a man in needy circumstances. He wanted the money, he said, to make a trip east. Annis was at one time employed by Starr. At the Starr ranch Thursday Annis An-nis appeared, saying that he was anxious to get to Blue lakes, where he had been offered employment. Starr offered to take him there. Near Blue lakes Annis pulled a gun, Starr says, compelling him to do his bidding until reaching Eden, where Starr took advantage of the occasion occa-sion for stopping to replenish the gasoline supply to overpower his captor. |
