Show RAYMOND-ELY WEST , BEGINS OPERATIONS The Raymond and Ely West, a mining property adjoining the Greenwood mine of the Amalgamated Pioche Mines & Smelters corporation and a property owned principally by the Bamberger interests in-terests of Salt Lake, has been secured by S. T. Godbe under a favorable contract con-tract and Mr. Godbe is already at work in the effort to open the mine at depth, according to the Pioche Record. A mutually advantageous contract has been worked out with the Combined Metals Met-als company permitting work to be done through the No. 1 shaft, and two men have started on the 650-foot level to drive through the Combined Metals territory and into the Raymond and Kly West. This work should be finished is about sixty days, when the Raymond and Ely West will be prospected at the depth of 650 feet from the surface. It is the first work to be done on the property In years and now, thanks to the initiative of Mr. Godbe, it seems reasonable to look forward for-ward to the development of a large body of ore within a comparatively short time and at a depth that means much more than any shallow development. The great beds of ore in the Combined Metals mine have been developed to within with-in a short distance of the boundary line between the two properties on the 400-foot 400-foot level, but on this level they dip below be-low the 400-foot workings and instead of following this ore with an impractical incline in-cline Mr. Godbe will extend the 650-foot drift to a point under the ore and will raise to the beds. With this preliminary work finished and the ore opened it will bo an easv mining problem to stope the ore, drop It to the 650-foot level and raise it through the main working shaft, the No. 1, directly to the ore bins on the railroad. In driving through the ground of the Combined Metals an interesting territory will bo developed a territory which has yielded some high-grade silver-lead ore and a territory in which there iB good reason to hope for the development of rich stopes of size. The leasing of this territory, which has been dormant for so many yoars, and the starting of active work on a level which will develop the property almost at once. Is the most interesting piece of mining news of the district this week. It Is to be regretted that the Record is unable un-able to quote Mr. Godbe or the officials of the Combined Metals In regard to then-plans. then-plans. In answer to an inquiry they said that there was nothing to give out for publication, although they hoped to have good news to release some time In the near future. |
