Show David S. Thomas Has Record of Twenty-eight Months' Service. David S. Thomas, son of Mathonibah Thomas, former state chairman of the Democratic party, returned home Friday Fri-day evening after an absence of twenty -ciiiht months, the last ten of which were spent in France. Private Thomas was one of Lieuten-aut Lieuten-aut Colonel Bourne's company and saw service on the Mexican border. Later he served under Major ClawTson, guarding guard-ing the city waterworks. Just after war was declared he enlisted in the marine ma-rine corps and was sent to Mare island; later to Quantieo, Va., where he was attached to tho sixth regiment. lie was released shortly afterwards to attend the army and navy school in Washington. Washing-ton. He reenlisted July 12, 1918, on hearing hear-ing of the death of his chum, Joseph Simmons "VVilltes. This time he was attached at-tached to (J company, 11th marines and went across as a bomber with that company. com-pany. He has won his expert badge as a marksman, also that of pistol expert. During several furloughs he traveled extensively in France. This winter young Thomas plans to enter the University of Utah and complete com-plete his studies. He was discharged at Hampton Koads and spout a short time visiting in the east before returning to Salt Lake. Brcnnan, the other son of Mr. Thomas who served with the marine corps iu Franco, returned two months ago. For the first time in three years the family is all together once more. |
