Show eo of hies WOULDBOX m I Screen Star Hurls Defi at the Heavyweight Champion. "When Jsek Dempsey outfought Jesa Willard at Toledo on July 4 and won the heavyweight championship of the world, he turned the trick so easily that there was considerable agitation among the boxing; fraternity as to who would be the next logical contender for the heavyweight heavy-weight crown. With ft-w exceptions the field is bare of prospects able to put up the kind of battle that would entice the titleholder into the I finer. Now comes Elmo Lincoln, a moving picture actor, who has won fame as the "Hercules of the Screen," who wired a ehallanse to LVmpsey from California last week. And the young- giant of the picture camera has such a good chance of putting up a scrap that may lose Pemp-sey Pemp-sey the title that he has attracted James J. Jeffries and James J. Corbet t. both former champions, to his camp. Lincoln now has representatives in Chicago and New York camping on the trail of Demp-sey Demp-sey and his manager. Jim Jeffries has wired the following statement in support of his faith In the young movie actor: "I have carefully examined Elmo Lincoln Lin-coln and see in him the ability to put up a wonderful bat lie against IVmpsey. I am convinced Lincoln has strengi h and endurance. Whav we must teach him la speed. He has never boxed professionally, but he has wrestled and fought to the limit of a man's endurance in motion picture pic-ture work. I think so much of his chances to put up a scrap that I am willing to associate myself with Jim Corbet t in supervising su-pervising his training, and my ranch near Burbank, Cal., is at his disposal for the establishment of a training camp. "Lincoln should not fight Dempsey before be-fore Thanksgiving or Christmas. New-Year's New-Year's might be better. This is going to require a lot of stiff training, but Lincoln's clean life means much in his favor. He is another clean young fellow of the Dempsey type, just the sort who should be encouraged for the benefit of the boxing box-ing game that it may be kept on a high level." James J. Corbett is now in New York, where he is using every endeavor in an attempt to arrange a bout between Lincoln Lin-coln and Dempsey. Klmo Lincoln is known to thousands of motion picture devotees for his portrayal of Tarzan in "Tarzan of the Apes," as the blacksmith both in "The Birth of a Nation" and "Intolerance." In the Intter production he wns also seen as "The Mighty Man of Valor." Lincoln is about the same age as Dempsey. Demp-sey. He was born in Indiana, reared on a farm, and later became a railroad fire man, where he laid the foundation for his strength. His ambition has long been to fight for the heavyweight championship, and he was working along those lines when motion picture concerns tempted him with fabulous sums to devote his energies to the screen. He has had many ring battles with some of the best men In the country. Lincoln's measurements nre as follows: Neck, 17 inches: biceps, 16; forearm, 13; chest, normal, 46; expanded, 62; waist, 34; wrist, 8; thigh, 24; arms outstretched, 72; height, 6 feet; weight, 20R.
