Special to The Tribune. MT. PLEASANT, May 26. Mrs. Christina Frandsen, 70 years of age, one of Mt. Pleasant 's highly respected pioneer women, passed away Wednesday Wednes-day after an illuess of faur years ot heart trouble. She was a natiee of Denmark, having immigrated from there to this country when 12 years of age. With her paenrs and one brother she crossed the plains in Allen's hand-cart company, starting from Florence, Mo., in the month of June, lS5i, and reaching reach-ing bait Luke City tSepiembcr 4 of the same vear, after passing through many hardships. At Fort Laramie, Wyo. their provisions began to run short, and thev were obliged to live on roots and herbs. i In the latter part of the journey many of the older and weaker imiiii- ; grants bec ame sick and died. Mrs. 1 Frandsen was taken su-k and was not able to pull tho hand-cart any further. She was placed in a wagon with an old 1 woman. Arriving at Devil's Gate, near Green River, thev were taken out and left by the roadside so that tho wagons could make better progress to meet those that had he-en sent out from Salt Lake with supplies. ' v Alter the company had stopped for the night someone in camp notified the captain that there had been a little girl and woman left behind. He sent some of the stronger men back to bring them in. Among those, that went in search for them was Andrew P. Jensen Jen-sen of this -place, who is still living, and bv his aid Mrs. Frandsen and her companion wore brought into camp, the old woman dying the next dav. Mrs. Frandsen was the wite of Rasmus Ras-mus Frandsen. She was the mother of ten children, five having preceded her to the grave, and five living. Funeral services will be held in the North ward chapel at 2 o'clock tomorrow tomor-row afternoon, with Bishop H. C. Jacobs in charge. |
