Those who at- tended the entertainment at the FlkB' j lodge rooms In this city on Wednesday j afternoon went away with a much bet- tcr understanding of the work which is 1 being- done by the Red Cross organization, organiza-tion, after listening to the excellent ad-i ad-i dress of Mrs. 1'rlscilla J. Riter of Salt I Italic, who came lie re for the express i purpose of meeting with the ladies who I have formpd the local chapter, j Tho social affair held on Wednesday ; was in the nature of a tea given In Mrs. ' Riter's honor and for the double purpose of raising funds for the purchase of yarn from which sweaters and other articles i of wearing apparel will be made for the men who are serving on the U. S. battle-i battle-i ship 1'tah. I The I'tah Navy league has received j permission to supply the men on the battleship named after the state with such articles, and here in Eureka a branch of the league has been formed with Mrs. C C. Griggs as chairman. Ladles of the Navy league an1 also the members of the newly organized chapter of the Red Cross joined in making the recent entertainment a succens and It is quite evident that they succeeded beyond their most sanguine expectations. The ladies in charge of the tea were as follows: Mrs. I. F. Gose, Mrs. John R. Rowe. Mrs. J. K. O'Conner, Mrs. David Milts. Mrs. Alex Blight, Mrs. P. J. Fennell, Mrs. C. K. Rice, Mrs. Warren McAilams. Mrs. C. B. Garten. Mrs. Emma Billings. Those who assisted in pouring pour-ing were Mrs. J. A. Hensel, Mrs. C. E. Huish, Mrs. William Stewart. Mrs. L, C. Doty, Mrs. Mark McChrystal, Mrs. W. F. Sh river, Mrs. L. F,. Pierce and Mrs. R. L. 'onyers, while the young ladies who served were Misses Adeln GriggH, Helen Clark. Anna Coffey, Mary Clark, Muriel Sullivan, Helen Shriver. Stella Fields, Catherine Doty, Hilda Cummings and Irene Sullivan. Others who assisted were Mrs. J. W. Embleton, Mrs. Ben Thurmond and Miss Fannie Fields. The tea resulted In the raising of a fund of about and Mrs. Griggs, as chairman of the Navy league of this city, extended the thanks of the organization to the Elks' lodge for the use of the lodge rooms ami to the ladies of Tin tic for their attendance and patronage. Mrs. .1. II. McChrystal, chairman of the local chapter of the Red Cross, states that the work here is receiving the 11 h-eral h-eral indorsement that tt deserves. At this time '.e chapter has about loij members. mem-bers. Mrs. McChrystal appreciates the efforts of Miss Maud Fitch, who has ben active in work of this nature and who has turned over to the Red Cross organization here the money which was subscribed by members of Miss Fitch's first-aid class. |
