Show JAPAN'S FRIENDSHIP is mmmm Head of Japanese Society in New York Warmly Welcomed. TOKIO, May 6 (Correspondence of The Associated Press.) Leading Japanese accorded a hearty welcome to Lindsay Russell, president of the Japan society of New York, who is now visiting visit-ing tha Far East, and seized the occasion, occa-sion, also, to re-emphasize Japanese friendship toward the United States. Among the many functions arranged in honor of Mr. Russell were dinners given by Baron Hachiroemon Mitsui and Baron Eiichi Shibusawa. Speaking of Mr. Russell's work in the United States in bringing about a more sympathetic sym-pathetic understanding of Japan and its peoples, Baron Shibusawa said that he hoped Mr. Russell would bring back from his visit to China the conviction that China could best be developed by the United States and Japan working together. "I consider," declared Baron Shibusawa, Shibu-sawa, "that this co-operation is a most important point in the relations between be-tween Japan and America." Mr. Russell said that the Japan society soci-ety of New York would at once form a committee of three to co-operate with a committee of the recently organized or-ganized American-Japan society at Tokio. He explained that there was a project on foot for the development of a Japan-America chamber of commerce with the object of encouraging trade, travel and the investment of American capital in the orient. |
