I, HE. corner of Fifth West and Third I North streets, next Wednesday morning, wilt be the scene of much X activity. Promptly at 10 o'clock the limit men In the twenty-second annual Memorial day bicycle road race will be sent away on the long grind to Lacoon. Half a minute later the starter's sun will crack again und another bunch oi youthful aspirants for the coveted first place will bend over their handle bars and start plugging. At the usual intervals, until the eh-rate h men leave their marks, other groups of riders will get off their marks and attempt to set a pace too hot for the others to follow. Immediately after the scratch men have started, the fans who wish to watch the race the entire distance will board a special spe-cial observation train that will keep pace with the contestants all along the course. The train will arrive at the finish mark I in plenty of time for the fans to see every j rider cross the tape. Ask Co-operation. . Autoists, motorcyclists and other drivers of vehicles will confer a favor on the promoters pro-moters and riders alike if they will keep off the main road as much as possible during the race. In former years many of the riders were not able to show to the l.est of their ability on account of being slowed up along the course by a congestion conges-tion of non-partieipants in some narrow space on the road. The management I wishes to avoid this 'trouble this year if! possible. Manaser Ted Hengren announces a long list of men who will act as officials for the race. These men will be stationed at certain intervals all along the course to see that there is no foul riding and that j 1 the contestants do not accept pace from any vehicles other than the bicycles in the ! race. Any rider caught switching or run- I nlng another rider to the side of the road, or accepting pace from automobiles, mo- j toreycles, etc., will he Instantly disquali- j tied. The Memorial day race has been the j means of starting many of the crack bi- i eyrie riders of the t'nfted States on their! way to fame and fortune. It has turned out such stars as W. K.
