Show j Thirteen Farmers To nation's Gapitoi Thirteen Farmers Union delegates dele-gates from Utah recently returned from a Farmers Union sponsored bus trip to Washington, D. C. They report the biggest topic of interest in the nation's capitol is the farm problem. This Farmers Union delegation was in Washington the week the Senate was debating th controversial contro-versial farm bill. They state the entire delegation was in agreement agree-ment with the statement made earlier by Harold' Cooley, chairman of the House Agricultural Committee Com-mittee that the Eisenhower farm legislation proposals won't be of much benefit in reversing the' tumbling farm income trend. Comparable Farmers Union delegates dele-gates from five other states weTe in Washington at the' same time. While in Washington, the group attended a half day session in the department of Agriculture with some of their top officials and presented to them some of the' major ma-jor Farmers Union objectives in the farm price field. All of the state's congressmen and senators were contacted, as well as congressmen from other states, and many historical points of interest in and around the cap- itol city were visited. Some forty-three bus loads of Farmers Union members, from 22 states have visited Washington this year while Congress has been in session. The total number of farmers who participated in this project is over 1800. The' delegates from the Uintah Basin were: DeVere Hancock, My-ton; My-ton; Vernon Edwards, Myton, and Mrs. Orson Nielsen, Vernal. |
