' District 56. In District 57, Republican party members are waiting for Governor Scott Matheson to fill the unexpired post held by Douglas Sonntag who was recently appointed ap-pointed I to the State Tax Commission! When that representative is named he must also run for re-election in the fall. IN DISTRICT 66, which encompasses parts of Davis County as well as Weber and Summit, Edison Stephens is the incumbent in-cumbent state representative. Candidates for that multi-county district, as well as State Senate District 23 must file with the Secretary of State, Mr. Walker said. All other legislative posts including the senate post held by Haven Barlow must file with the county clerk. The only state legislative post not up for re-election is the four-year term held by Senator Jack Bangerter, who was elected two years ago. TWO SEATS on the Davis County School Board, both in the north end of the county are up for re-election. Morris Hansen and Lynn Burton currently hold those school-board school-board spots. In addition, the two district judges Thomley Swan and Duffy Palmer must file with the Secretary of State for the two Second District Judge positions. .Mr. Walker said these two positions are often unopposed, but the names appear on the county ballot. In order to meet filing restrictions, the candidate must have lived within the county for one year, in addition to living within the area for which he files. Another regulation requires that the county attorney attor-ney must be licensed to practice in the State of Utah. NO OTHER requirements for county offices, specify that a candidate have specific training although Mr. Walker said if the county surveyor is not a licensed engineer, a licensed engineer would have to be hired. Glen Austin, presently serving as surveyor is a licensed engineer. Although the qualifications for the assessor do not require a qualified appraiser or the county clerk or auditor's require an accountant, ac-countant, these qualifications would be advantageous, Mr. Walker said. Filing fees for candidates vary. In the case of county officials, except for constables, con-stables, the fee is one quarter of one percent per-cent of the term salary. A four-year county commission would have to pay about $200 in filing costs, while a two-year commissioner would have to pay about $100. CONSTABLES ARE required to pay only $1 as are candidates for the school board post, he said. iaiSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHja |
