Show Views By DOUG ERICKSON If you've been to Viewmont lately, late-ly, you might have seen a couple of Vikings stumbling about, looking like the victims of a chronic, wasting wast-ing disease. Don't get worried! These folks are just having a hard time recovering from a very successful suc-cessful and fun-filled homecoming week. To all those who prepared activities and worked behind the scenes, we thank you; to those who attended the events and participated partici-pated in them, we appreciate your support. Now a word about something hot at Viewmont: Viking crosscountry. cross-country. At the recent first annual Davis County Invitational, Viewmont View-mont runners won all three races. In the junior varsity class, Rich Cluff took first. Steph Spendlove placed first in the girls' division. And in the championship division, first place runner was Mark John-sen, John-sen, still a junior. Coach Lynn Dubois is pleased with his team's performance. "We've certainly got the best team in the region, and have many of the better runners in the state." Coach Dubois consistently coaches winning win-ning teams, whether it's because of his coaching skill, quality runners, or combination of both. Upcoming meets are September 24, 3:30 p.m. (at Viewmont), and October 1, at East High. Football this week: the bold-and-mighty Vikings take on Highland High-land in their second consecutive home game. That's Friday at 7:30 p.m. Our fantastic girls' volleyball team (they took second in a district meet in Layton) play Thursday at 4 p.m., and face Davis next Tuesday, Tues-day, the 29th. Our girls are top-notch, top-notch, and volleyball is quite an exciting sport to watch, so come and see them in action. Plus, if you're not spectacled-out, spectacled-out, we've got golf and tennis. Golf and tennis are Thursday the 24th (VHS). Next Monday is golf at Highland, and Tuesday is golf at VHS and tennis at Bountiful. All matches and rounds start at 3:30 p.m. National Honor Society, under the direction of Josephine Town-send, Town-send, has also gotten underway for the year 1987-88. With Russ Hokanson as its president, the NHS is accepting applications for induction. The induction ceremony cere-mony will be held sometime in October. |
