I Bountiful had a "bad game" and was whitewashed by the rambling Rams, 34-0. The Braves play East in i Bountiful's Homecoming game Friday while the Rams test Viewmont on the Vikings' field. f Games begin at 7:30 p.m. j Local prep teams play at home Friday j By GARY R. BLODGETT Sports Editor Davis County prep fans will have i an opportunity to see their favorite ; local team in action Friday without j having to travel into Salt Lake City for an afternoon game, j All Region Four high school I football games are played in the Bountiful area tomorrow, and all I have a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. " Highland's rambling Rams will play Viewmont on the Vikings' i, field; Davis will travel to Woods j Cross for an encounter with the Wildcats; and Bountiful will host East High's Leopards. ! The following Friday (Oct. 3) local teams will be "on the road" again with Woods Cross playing at Highland; Bountiful traveling to Kaysville for a matchup with Davis; and Viewmont will play East in Salt Lake Citv. In Region One action, Clearfield will play at Roy and Layton will travel to Weber. Both are 7:30 p.m. games and should rank among the best prep games played in Utah this weekend, especially the Layton-Weber contest on the Warriors' War-riors' field. Highland should be a favorite to beat Viewmont although the Vikings Vik-ings showed promise (and improvement) im-provement) in defeating Woods Cross 27-22 in the Region Four opener last week. The Rams were awesome in whitewashing the Bountiful Braves, 37-0, last week and should be ranked early season favorites to repeat as Region Four champions. But it wasn't sheer power that rammed the Rams into the end zone it was taking the opportunity opportun-ity of recovered fumbles, interceptions intercep-tions and other Braves' misplays that spelled the difference. Bountiful has been, on a roller-coaster roller-coaster ride all season playing exceptionally well at times, and then having a bad game like that one against Highland. Earlier, against Olympus, the Braves looked awesome; they could do no wrong. In fact, Highland has had its bad days as well, having lost two of its four games this season. It's still a long season ahead, but the Rams should be favorites against Viewmont. View-mont. The Davis-Woods Cross game should be a pivotal match for both teams. The Wildcats had their bright moments against Viewmont last week in a game that wasn't decided until the final buzzer. Woods Cross recovered a VHS fumble on the WX-2 1 with less than one minute to play. But four Wildcat passes fell incomplete and the Vikes held on to win. Davis Coach Jim Dickson says the Darts have got to be more consistent con-sistent and intense in their play if they are to continue winning. The Darts scored early in the game against East last week and then had to struggle to hang on for a win. As in past years, Davis is a "grind-it-out-on-the-ground" type of offense, but has proved it can be effective in the air especially when throwing to big tight end Brian Olsen. Davis should be at least a one-touchdown one-touchdown favorite. The type of game Bountiful plays will determine who wins this matchup with East. The Leopards have a good team, but if the Braves are "on" it should be a BHS victory. vic-tory. And playing before a homecoming homecom-ing crowd, what more can you ask for? I look for Bountiful to put it all together and win by 10. |
