Show Matt rsminisees 1985-86 school year THE YEAR IN REVIEW By Matt Sumsion (The following are excerpts from the 35 "Brave Rave" columns col-umns representing the 1985-86 school year at Bountiful High.) August 20: "Thank you to everyone who has put in time this summer for the benefit of the school! We look forward to seeing everyone Monday and hope you enjoy these last few days of summer!" . . . , . August 29: "Welcome to Welcome Back Week! Friday night is the night of our very first football game. Afterwards, a video stomp will be held in our Old Gym until 12:30." September 19: "Thursday is the night of our first major pep rally and major is what it will be. ..The BHS Homecoming Assembly will be held Friday afternoon. We promise that better free entertainment can be found nowhere on earth. ..After the assembly, the BHS Homecoming Parade will get underway... A tailEate party will begin in the parking lot at six... The Homecoming Home-coming football game will begin at 7:30.,.we're excited about the past traditions and other surprises which will be taking place that night.... The 5K run is Saturday morning, and that night is (you guessed it) the Homecoming Dance! Features of the dance will include the new Chamber Choir singing the dance theme, "Happy Together." September 26: "Senate interviews are taking place this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. If you haven't signed up for a time, do so soon!" October 10: "To all BHS students not already on a team for the first annual BHS studentbody volleyball tournament: Time is running out! Get on a team!" October 17: "(Inspiration an been you ve. Dave, thanks.) Girls "vike a spike" and out go! 4:00 at today VHS plays team volleyball the." , . . October 24: "Lest you get too worked up, a Sophomore Stomp is not something in which you stomp sophomores-it is, instead, a stomp sponsored by the sophomore officers. But it will be fun anywayit is a Halloween-type costume dance. Come dressed to kill and win some killer prizes." November 19: One possible reason for the stream of people into Bountiful is the BHS Lip-Sync Air Concert which will be held tomorrow night at 7:00 in the BHS Auditorium. Cash pnzes i of $100, $75 and $50 will be given to the top three performances perform-ances ..Another reason for the South Davis human influx may also be related to BHS. That organization is sponsoring a morp-type morp-type stomp this Friday night which is affectionatly referred to as "Revenge of the Nerds." November 26: "Leave December 6th and 7th open on your calendars for Marathon Dance -85! It just might change your dating habits -- or maybe your entire life! December 12: "Thou shalt attend the BHS Christmas Dance at the capitol building of thy state. If thou art female and thou hast not yet invited a male, thou shalt do so. Likewise, if thou art male and thou hast not yet been invited, thou shalt invite someone some-one to invite you. For lo, it's the Most Wonderful Time of the Yeer.' Even so. Amen." January 16: "Are you tired of the cold? Are you tired of the fog? Are you tired of all the snow, slush, and ice? Are you tired of Utah? Yes? Well, here's your chance to get away from it all! For a limited time only. The Bountiful High Travel Agency will be accepting orders for dream trips to the thrilling and romantic South Pacific!" ' January 23: "Junior Prom is one of the biggest and best activities of the year (despite its junior title) and is the climax of the juniorrific Junior Week, so be there or be of junior importance. import-ance. And guys, don't forget your Junior Mints." January 30: "2001. We feel we've reached an important milestone as we attend our 15-year high school reunion in a brand new decade, a brand-new century, and a brand-new mille- nium." , . , , February 6: "The basketball team here at the school -- Shaves their heads to keep them cool. The way they perform is simply great, and nothin'll stop our trip to state. So bring on the Vikes, bring on the chucks - Compared to us. everybody sucks. And we may cause a little bit of trouble. But let's go ahead and do the Bountiful Shuffle!" ... . . February 20: "'Francesca. that's not nice! Marcus said angrily. f 'Life's not nice! And you can find yourself another date tor the Enchantment Under the Sea. I've decided to ask Quinn'. February 27: "Dear Bountiful High School - I suppose you noticed a curiois lack of charisma in your halls during most of this past week. This was, of course, due to the fact that your cheerleaders were here in the Sunshine State." March 13: "See Bountiful. See Bountiful win. Ooh. aah. Win, Bountiful, win! See the drill team. See the drill team win. State, drill team, state! Way to win, drill team! Way to win, Mandonel-les! Mandonel-les! Ooh, aah. March 20: "Call me a Brave. Because when it comes right down to it, no matter who wins or loses, the Bountiful Braves are still the Bountiful Braves. And Hillcrest is still. ..Hillcrest. That's how it was meant to be." March 27: "At that moment, he heard a 'click' behind him. He jumped around, only to be hit right in the cheek with a dart of the type he had been using all week. His hopes for winning the BHS 'Gotcha Week' prize were shattered with this one swift shot. He cried when he saw his assassin. She smiled and blew the smoke from her dart gun. 'You've been terminated by Francesca Bond'." April 10: "Don't Drink the Water. School play. Last Friday, Saturday. Monday. Well done. Informative. Hysterical Convincing. Con-vincing. We won't drink it." April 24: "i was the third person Marcus Rouge asked to the Senior Ball last Saturday. I told him I was busy.' Francesca was seen, nevertheless, at last Friday's Senior Assembly and at the PTA's excellent "Bravexpo." She attends all BHS track meets, soccer games, and boys' tennis matches. She also admits to being an avid fan of the incredible baseball team. In addition, she was in attendance at the Senior Party last Thursday. So what is it that she's boycotting?" 'Everything else'!" May 8: "No. 130. Three groups who recently astounded San Francisco during one of the last stops of their Western States Tour: I. BHS' A'cappella Choir. 2. BHS' Chamber Choir. 3. BHS' Xcla" ei , May 15: "Tonight is the rescheduled night of last Friday s sit-in, big-screen, football field movie. 'Splash' is always fun, and so is postponing your homework, so be there at 8:30. The cheap thrills are not only cheap, they're free." May 22: "Goodbye." May 29: "Yea, it's been a pretty great year. Thank you, teachers, administrators, parents, and everyone else for your invaluable assistance. And to the 1985-1986 studentbody of Bountiful High School: Thank you for bringing this all to a happy ending." |
