Show FARM andHOMEto L'TAB STATE EXTENSION BERV1CB ACUICULTIRR HOMH ECONOMIC By Louis A. Jensen County Agricultural Agent An interesting tour was conducted con-ducted last week, sponsored jointly by the Soil Conservation Service and I. Our object was to observe results of fertilizer demonstrations and grass plantings. plant-ings. At the Richard Olsen farm in Neola we inspected fertilizer demonstration plots on his alfalfa. al-falfa. The plots receiving 200 pounds of 43 per cent phosphate per acre appear to be yielding at least twice as much as those with no fertilizer. The farmers in this area are invited to see this outstanding demonstration before Mr. Olsen cuts his hay. At the Hyrum Jensen farm south of Roosevelt, additional fertilizer demonstrations were observed. Here again 200 pounds or more of phosphate per acre has given a great increase in yield. The next stop was at the farm of Tom Gilbert in Arcadia. Here we saw tall wheatgrass making an excellent growth on poor alkali land. Mr. Gilbert will be glad to show these fields to any one who is interested and will tell what he thinks of this grass. This week another series of schools is being conducted for homemakers of Duchesne county. coun-ty. Theta Johnson, extension clothing specialist, is giving clothing demonstrations and discussions dis-cussions at Duchesne, Roosevelt and Mt. Emmons. In July, Elna Miller, extension nutrition specialist, will be here to conduct similar demonstrations demonstra-tions and discussions on food selection and preparation. There is a good possibility that a photography class will be conducted here the early part of July. This will be taught by someone from the Utah State Agriculture college. Anyone interested in-terested in taking this class should contact me. . Wenzel Luke, our county weed supervisor, is putting forth every effort to help control con-trol the noxious weeds in the county. As rapidly as time permits, per-mits, he is attempting to contact every person with noxious weeds on his farm. In most cases good cooperation is being obtained. Mr. Luke is to be complimented compli-mented on the good job he is I doing. With the support of everyone ev-eryone concerned, we are sure that progress can be made. |
