Show Purchases Of Defense Bonds Increase Defense bond purchases in May of the popular series E indicate in-dicate an upward swing despite totals down 10 per cent from last year in dollar volume. - according ac-cording to Charles L. '" We must consider that last year bond purchases were greatly great-ly stimulated by the Independence Indepen-dence bond campaign during this period," Mr. Smith pointed out. Although dollar volume is down, the number of purchases of $25 and $50 bonds is up 9 per cent over the first four months of 1951 compared to 1950 which reflects progress in the payroll savings plan, he said. A seasonal drop of 8 per cent was noted in the May 1951 total of $819,291 for E. F and G series bonds in Utah, compared com-pared with $889,732 for April In Duchesne county series E defense bonds purchased in May added up to $1,838.00, compared to $413.00 in April, according to Mr. Smith. "The flurry of scare buying and hoarding is dying out," Mr. Smith said. "More and more family dollars are being put into in-to safe, profitable Defense bonds, a proven method of helping to combat inflation." |
