Show Protests Action .... City Asked To Defer Request For Oil Tank The Roosevelt Parent-Teachers Association and Phillips Motel Mo-tel this week filed formal protests pro-tests to Mayor Homer P. Edwards Ed-wards and the city council on action taken at a recent council meeting, wherein approval to . build bulk gasoline storage tanks on a lot located less than a block from the elementary elemen-tary school and directly across the street from the Phillips Motel. Both petitions that have been actively circulated about the. city have secured signatures of nearly 200 citizens, and each call attention to the city officials of-ficials of the danger that could come from exploding oil tanks, if that were to happen. Another point emphasized in the petitions peti-tions was that such a construction construc-tion would detract from the beauty and desirability of that particular part of the city, j The petitioning groups urge j Mayor Edwards and the council to recind their previous commitment, com-mitment, made at the last regular regu-lar meeting on June 11, and that they begin immediately to establish es-tablish zoning regulations in the city; and further, that the existing exist-ing oil storage tanks be removed re-moved as soon as possible by the owners Mayor Edwards was out of the city this week, but information informa-tion from members of the council coun-cil reveal that the matter will again be brought before a full council on Monday, June 25, for further study. |
