Show University Of Scouting Planned: For The lasin Will Start On j Nov. 4th, To Go 6 Weeks Decision to prepare and conduct a University of Scouting in the Uintah Basin came as a result of a special meeting of Scout leaders from all four Scout districts of the Basin. Date set for the opening open-ing session has been announced for Friday, Nov. 4 and will con tinue for six weeks, on consecutive consecu-tive Fridays. A University of Scouting is where a number of training courses cours-es are conducted at the same time s.o as to facilitate transportation and secure . the best .instructors available. - It was decided by the Scout leaders of the Basin to conduct the University of Scouting in Roosevelt. All Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Guide and Explorer leaders including the unit committee and institutional representatives would be invited to participate. Two Hour Courses The University of Scouting, as set up in the Utah National Parks Council, will consist of 6, 2-hour training sessions, coming once a week. Dates for the event were set Friday, Sept. 23. James E. (Continued from Page One) Scouting committee. Ted Olpin was named secretary. During the past scouting year ending Sept. 30, 1955, there were 87 Scout leaders trained in the Uintah Basin. Duchesne had 15 complete a Basic Scoutmaster's Training Moon Lake District completed its Basic Scoutmaster's Training course with eight receiving certificates. cer-tificates. Uintah and Roosevelt Districts each had 10 complete a similar course during the spring. Thirty-three boy leaders were trained while attending the 1955 High Uinta Scout Camp. Ten ladies lad-ies directing Guide Patrol's of the Roosevelt District, completed their basic training Aug. 1. One person completed training by personal coaching. Basically, during the past year, only training was offered to scoutmasters, troop committeemen and junior (boy) leaders of the Basin. The University of Scouting would enable training to be given den mothers, cubmasters, pack committees, explorer advisors, explorer ex-plorer committees, guide patrol leaders and institutional representatives represen-tatives as well as scoutmasters, troop committeemen and junior leaders. |
