Show Ocrothy Keddington To Sing Leading Feminine Rele En 'Promised Hailey' Sop.rano Dorothy Kimball Keddington, intcrmountain singing sing-ing star, today was signed to sing the leading feminine role in the University of Utah's Sum mer Festival production of "Promised Valley." The announcement an-nouncement came from Maurice Abravanel, music director of the festival, and director of the Utah State Symphony. Mrs. Keddington, playing opposite op-posite Norman Scott, New York opera star, will portray the wife of an early pioneer. "Promised "Prom-ised Valley" will be presented July 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 21, 22 and 24 in the university stadium bowl. "Her rich pioneer heritage heri-tage coupled with her striking beauty and singing talent makes her an excellent choice," Abravanel Abra-vanel said. , A number of well known stars were auditioned during Abravanel's recent trip east, but the director said he decided on Mrs. Keddington because of her i unusual ability. j Mrs. Keddington1 has long' been known throughout the intcrmountain in-tcrmountain region for her work i in radio, and more recently, television. tel-evision. During the Utah centennial cen-tennial in 1947, Mrs. Keddington Kedding-ton toured the state in the leading lead-ing role of "Blossom Time," a special centennial production. Early in 1947 she made the trek from Nauvoo, 111., to Salt Lake City, over the old pioneer route. One hundred fifty-seven men and three women, the same number as in the first Mormon party to reach Salt Lake valley, made up the caravan of modern pioneers. Mrs. Keddington, one of the three women, was the prima donna in the many pa- , geants the troupe presented during dur-ing its trip from Illinois to Salt I Lake City. |
